How Sewing Can Be Theraputic

Yes, sewing can actually be very therapeutic for many, believe it or not! Do you have to have an electric sewing machine, scissors and other equipment, fabric, patterns and thread? Doesn't that cost a lot of money? Yes, getting the necessary equipment to begin sewing could be considered quite expensive. That is, when you compare the time spent in getting the supplies, paying for them and actually sewing to a bargain obtained at Target that you can wear immediately.

In most cases, sewing for yourself, family or home is not the savings of money as it was in the 40s, 50s and 60s, but a number of people will exclaim that sewing is something they do. It is something they like to do and keep on doing it. Many people get a lot of personal satisfaction from seeing something they've sewn really loved and enjoyed. It is very therapeutic to let go of all those tensions while stitching fabric with colored threads. This can be true of not only sewing clothing, but making quilts, embroidering decorative items for the home, knitting warm scarves and gloves or mittens, and such.

Learning to sew is not always easy and many people these days cannot settle their minds to consider how to get started. Fortunately most of us have access to the Internet where many tutorials can be easily found. There's a post on TheKitchn.com, which gives step-by-step instructions with pictures for sewing table runners and napkins. Seeing these pictures of exactly how it looks for each step of the project will certainly relieve your stress. Make learning to sew a weekend project of learning. This can provide much good therapy. Then, once you become an avid sewer, teach someone the joys of your craft!
